Laura the Explorer
In 2010 I left the UK for my dream job; to work in an international school on the tropical island of Bali. I had never lived away from my home town of Northampton before, but taking this huge leap into the unknown was the best decision I have ever made. It gave me the most incredible opportunity to travel, which I embraced wholeheartedly. I was able to journey to different countries during the school holidays and explore the island at weekends. This is when my obsession with travel truly began.
Two years later I returned to the UK to complete a PhD in English Literature; getting paid to study full-time meant that I had the flexibility to continue to satisfy my newfound wanderlust, as I could always take my work with me wherever I went. I even managed to write up an entire chapter of my thesis while living with a friend in Singapore!
After completing my PhD I worked for another year at a school in Thailand before eventually returning home to the UK. Since then I have continued to travel as much as possible whilst juggling working as a teacher, lecturer, writer and private tutor, proving that it is possible to both be at home and away.
